This study aims, firstly, to examine the impact of oil palm plantation development on changes in the social and cultural structure of the Puragi community in Matemani District. Secondly, it aims to analyse the social conflicts that have arisen from the Puragi community’s involvement in the oil palm industry, particularly regarding land management and profit distribution. The method used is qualitative descriptive, employing data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation; the data were then analysed descriptively based on field findings. The results of this study indicate that the presence of oil palm plantations has not entirely brought about the welfare of the community, particularly the local communities in the surrounding areas; there are still many unresolved issues faced by residents, particularly regarding land converted into oil palm plantations, the rights of indigenous communities have not been fully granted, and the basic needs of the local community remain unmet.
