Abstract

Human activities and land use along a river’s course exert considerable influence on its water quality. This study examines the pollution level and water quality of the Cikarang Bekasi Laut (CBL) River, specifically the stretch between Sumberjaya Village and Srijaya Village in Bekasi Regency. A quantitative descriptive approach with an experimental design was applied, in which water samples were collected once from three sampling points, each representing a different type of surrounding land use. The samples were then analyzed for ten parameters: temperature, turbidity, color, electrical conductivity (EC), pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), sulfite, and anionic surfactants. The resulting data were assessed against the Class IV water quality standards stipulated in Government Regulation No. 22 of 2021, while the pollution status was determined using the Pollution Index method based on temperature, pH, BOD, COD, and DO in accordance with the Decree of the Minister of Environment No. 115 of 2003. The measured COD concentrations at the three sampling points—97, 241, and 173 mg/L—all exceeded the Class IV threshold of 80 mg/L. Based on the calculated Pollution Index values of 1.06, 2.52, and 2.04, all three locations were classified as mildly polluted.
