Abstract

The development of modern lifestyles and limited living spaces has increased the demand for multifunctional furniture that provides not only comfort but also enhanced utility value. One approach to addressing this need is integrating storage features into lounge chairs to improve space efficiency and support user activities. This study aimed to develop a multifunctional Lounge Chair with an integrated storage feature and evaluate its ergonomic and structural performance based on the ANSI/BIFMA X5.4 standard. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach consisting of needs identification, ergonomic design, prototype fabrication, structural testing, and product evaluation. Ergonomic evaluation was conducted by comparing the product dimensions with Human Dimension and Interior Space standards, while structural evaluation included Seating Static Load Test, Dynamic Drop Test, and Arm Strength Test based on ANSI/BIFMA X5.4 procedures. The results showed that most ergonomic parameters met the recommended standards. Although the armrest height and armrest length were outside the reference range, these configurations could still support user comfort in relaxation activities. Structural testing results demonstrated that the product satisfied ANSI/BIFMA X5.4 requirements without permanent deformation or joint failure. The findings indicate that integrating storage features can enhance product functionality without compromising ergonomic aspects and structural performance.
